An unapologetic riot of color and shape, John Monti’s vibrant and playful installation crosses the boundaries of art and design. Filled with references to historical motifs from sources as varied as ancient wall drawings and Art Deco buildings, Monti creates bright plastic playthings that have an exuberant, child-like innocence, reminiscent of the decorations on a carnival carousel. Recalling stylized flowers or snowflakes, Monti’s works are irrepressibly joyful—as if they might soar into the sky were they anchored to the wall.
