James Welling at Emory University Hospital
14 May 2012 by

Last December, we held a fundraiser to help us complete an installation at Atlanta's Emory University Hospital. Thanks to the enormous response and outpouring of contributions from our supporters, we were able to install fourteen beautiful photographs by James Welling in the hospital's Department of Radiology and Imaging Sciences in April 2012.
The photographs are from Welling's Glass House series, featuring Philip Johnson's eponymous house in New Canaan, Connecticut. In each of the vibrant images, the single architectural site is transformed by nature and colored lenses. The photographs completely transform the space, turning the once sterile environment into a landscape of dreamy colors and images.
Thank you to all our supporters for making this project possible! See more photos below.

RxArt Visits CT Scanner in Oak Lawn, IL
03 January 2012 by
I spent the holiday weekend in Chicago visiting family and while I was there I decided to take a side trip to see the Jeff Koons installation at Advocate Hope Children's Hospital in Oak Lawn, Illinois. I have seen many pictures of the installation but nothing could prepare me for seeing it in person--the colors are even more vibrant than they appear in photographs and the actual size of the CT scanner and the decals is much larger than I anticipated.
I could spot the room with the installation even from a distance, and as a nurse led me down the hall and to the room, I could see the colors spilling out into the hallway. I was completely taken aback when I entered the room and proceeded to spend quite a bit of time just taking everything in. As someone who experiences anxiety when visiting the doctor or the hospital, I can only wish that every room could be like this one--I would feel a lot more positive about visiting the doctor or getting tests done if it could take place in such a colorful and cheerful setting!

PEANUTS, at the Astrup Fearnley Museum of Modern Art
04 May 2011 by

We recently donated over a 100 sets of these awesome Dan Colen colored pencils to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Dan created these specially for his solo show, PEANUTS, at the Astrup Fearnley Museum of Modern Art in Norway this past January. We heard the kids, and the staff, couldn’t wait to start coloring with these in their RxArt Between the Lines coloring books!

We’re in the process of putting together a retrospective catalog of our hospital installations for the big event, and to make it a surefire bookshelf and/or coffee table staple, we’ve commissioned none other than James Nord as our photographer!
Take a break from that important, time-sensitive project you’re currently working on and visit his blog for a stylistic preview.

Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital
17 September 2010 by

RxArt continues to touch the lives of patients and hospital staff far and wide, and we couldn’t be more excited to share with you our latest adventure deep in the heart of Texas!
With the help of advisory board member Mollie Maxwell Myers and her husband Bob, RxArt was able to install another stunning set of Jason Middlebrook prints to line the halls of Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital with fine art that exudes positivity. We coupled the installation with a hefty donation of RxArt’s contemporary artist coloring books to young patients, who put their Crayolas to work immediately and created masterpieces of their own!
The completion of the project was celebrated with a sweet welcome in the form of this custom cake and a group of beaming doctors, nurses and patients. Needless to say, we departed Beaumont, TX with an extra bounce in our step! Thank you all for an unforgettable trip.

Terry & Kanye Give Back
12 July 2010 by

The art world is no doubt a small community, but for RxArt—a nonprofit that curates, collaborates, and connects great talent with unconventional institutions (i.e. hospitals and healthcare facilities)—it’s always exciting to witness our worlds colliding.
Case in point: Terry Richardson has just signed on for an inspiring project involving kids, his signature “thumbs up” gesture, and Kings County Hospital in Brooklyn—we’ll reveal more in the coming weeks. In addition, Kanye West gave RxArt and Jeff Koons an internet shout out last week. Above, the two are pictured hamming it up for Terry’s blog.
It’s a small world after all.
