• RxArt Visits CT Scanner in Oak Lawn, IL

I spent the holiday weekend in Chicago visiting family and while I was there I decided to take a side trip to see the Jeff Koons installation at Advocate Hope Children's Hospital in Oak Lawn, Illinois. I have seen many pictures of the installation but nothing could prepare me for seeing it in person--the colors are even more vibrant than they appear in photographs and the actual size of the CT scanner and the decals is much larger than I anticipated.

I could spot the room with the installation even from a distance, and as a nurse led me down the hall and to the room, I could see the colors spilling out into the hallway. I was completely taken aback when I entered the room and proceeded to spend quite a bit of time just taking everything in.  As someone who experiences anxiety when visiting the doctor or the hospital, I can only wish that every room could be like this one--I would feel a lot more positive about visiting the doctor or getting tests done if it could take place in such a colorful and cheerful setting!

Our friend Jeff Koons continues his good-will and holiday spirit.  Last night, Kiehl’s held a special event at their NYC flagship store celebrating our friend Jeff Koons’ latest collaboration with Kiehl’s.  A Kiehl’s limited-edition Creme de Corps Holiday Collection with labels featuring Jeff Koons artwork “Tulips.”  The label features Koons’ “Large Vase of Flowers,” which was inspired by the Queen’s Bedchamber at Versailles.

  • Working Jeff Koons

Nearly one third of our existence as a non-profit organization dedicated to transforming the landscapes of hospitals has been consumed by our wildest dream—working with contemporary art superstar Jeff Koons on a project that is the first of its kind.

Well, this week our wildest dream has been exceeded, and we’ve reached a major milestone not only for RxArt but also for the medical and arts communities. Thanks to the generosity, commitment and sheer brilliance of Jeff Koons, his studio and Kiehl’s, we’re pleased to announce the completion of our artist-designed CT Scanner and exam room at Advocate Hope Children’s Hospital in Oak Lawn, Illinois.

On Tuesday, the entire RxArt team attended the official unveiling with Mr. Koons along and an enthusiastic crowd of media, healthcare professionals, collectors and supporters. In a word, the experience was awe-inspiring. To give you a better understanding of the space itself, attendees were reluctant to leave the exam room tour, completely entranced by Koons’ playful imagery. Doctors even reported that they’ve decreased the anesthesia administered to young patients; children are no longer frightened of the procedure as a result of the transforming installation.

We invite you to take a moment to view our collection of photos to see for yourself the magic of this groundbreaking collaboration. And to those who have been and will continue to be an integral part of the success of each and every project, we express our sincere gratitude. Witnessing the positive effects of art is what makes us tick, and this momentous project couldn’t epitomize that any more.
