Andrew Kuo’s fascination with numbers and statistics gives his flat, geometric abstract works its distinctive quantitative quality leaving room for further interpretation. Varying shapes and charts in vibrant colors paint a picture of Kuo’s stories and aspects of his life:
“It has a lot to do with statistics; rating systems for albums, movies, sports, or restaurants; and just being hungry for data and numbers in general. I started thinking about aspects of my life in those terms. So I’d figure out a numerical equation or problem to sum up a situation to be explained by the painting via colors and forms.” (1)
Kuo was born in Queens, NY and he received his BFA in 1999 at Rhode Island School of Design in Providence, Rhode Island. Kuo has had several solo exhibitions at noted galleries such as Marlborough Chelsea ( New York, NY) and Half Gallery (New York, NY). Kuo lives and works in New York.
