Faurschou Tour & Tomokazu Matsuyama Studio Visit: Friends of RxART Event

Friends of RxART Members were invited to an afternoon of art in Brooklyn were we first visited Faurschou for a private tour of their three incredible exhibitions featuring Curtis Brown Sr., Zachary Armstrong, and Robert Rauschenberg. We were also privileged to experience a very special introduction and tasting of the next-door restaurant that will be led by acclaimed Danish chef, opening next Spring. Next, we walked to the nearby studio of Tomokazu Matsuyama where he shared a deeper look at his practice and we discussed upcoming RxART collaborations in the pipeline!

Farschou collects extraordinary works of art and builds ambitious exhibitions to “inspire contemplation, encounters and meaningful experiences between art, artists and audiences across cultures.” The foundation currently has three exhibitions on view in their Greenpoint space, featuring works by Curtis Barnes Sr., Robert Rauschenberg, and Zachary Armstrong.

Tomokazu Matsuyama is a Japanese-born, Brooklyn-based artist who is keenly aware of the nomadic diaspora, a community of wandering people who seek to understand their place in a world full of contrasting visual and cultural dialects. The pro-snowboarder, turned graphic designer and fine artist combines techniques he has absorbed from design and graffiti with modern abstract techniques as well as Ukiyo-e (Edo period woodblock prints), traditional Japanese iconography, and manga. Matsuyama’s colorful and dynamic work blends past and present, east and west, to visually represent his aesthetic evolution. Matsuyama will be featured in our next volume of the RxART Coloring Book!
