VOGUE – Alex Rodriguez + Urs Fischer = A Party for RxArt

VOGUE — November 4, 2015

Of all the cocktails-cum–auction evenings so frequent in the art world, RxArt’s annual fundraising party is always one of the more intriguing—and successful. Last night the benefit, sponsored by Coach, afforded not only the opportunity to witness avid collector Alex Rodriguez hunting his next acquisition and to enjoy hors d’oeuvres by Cooking for Artists author Mina Stone, but also—and most important—to view works by artists like Sam Falls, José Parlá, and Urs Fischer, who was honored last night by new Dia Art Foundation director Jessica Morgan. Fischer donated the evening’s prize piece, which was sold live by Christie’s unflagging auctioneer Sara Friedlander for well over $600,000 (yet unclear how much it would cost on the walls of the Gagosian Gallery). RxArt was founded with the brilliant initiative to update the sterile halls of children’s healthcare facilities with the vitalizing power of visual art—it’s a mission that needs no validation, but received it anyway with last night’s triumph.
