In January 2007, RxArt completed the installation of Ed Baynard’s eight lithographs titled My Egypt Series in the corridor leading to the entrance to the O.R. Admitting and Surgical Rooms at Beth Israel Medical Center.

Best known for his brilliant paintings of flowers, Baynard draws his inspiration from Eastern culture. With specific focus on the simplicity of form used in Japanese woodblock prints, he creates stylized compositions that generate a sense of calm. Baynard uses Ikebana, the Japanese art of arranging flowers in an aesthetically pleasing manner, as the impetus behind his work. The goal of Ikebana is to represent the three elements of sky, earth, and mankind in a well-balanced state. The stunning images Baynard creates from Asian influences are rich in color and full of movement.

This project is made possible through a generous grant from the William E. Weiss Foundation and a gift of the artist.
