RxART is excited to have worked with Tomokazu Matsuyama on a project for the new Nappi Wellness Institute at SUNY Upstate in Syracuse, NY. Tomokazu’s bright and uplifting imagery transforms the institute’s International department. Tomokazu’s work is installed in an area that the hospital anticipates will receive 54,000 annual visits.

This project is an important hospital partnership within the comprehensive SUNY Medical system and RxART’s first New York state project outside of the Tri-state area. The Nappi Wellness Institute was designed to improve the entire patient experience and everyone’s wellness, as the first WELL-Certified building in Central New York and the among the first of this type of hospital in the nation. By achieving the WELL certification, Nappi will optimize health and well-being in seven areas: air, comfort, fitness, light, mind, nourishment, and water. Nappi Wellness Institute will provide adult and pediatric primary and specialty care integrated into behavioral health care, nutrition, palliative care, and social support. As Syracuse is a sanctuary city, the hospital will serve a large refugee population, providing both healthcare and social service resource options to full families.

RxART produces every project at no cost to the hospital and provides each commissioned artist with an honorarium. RxART is grateful to ATWATER Skin and Ducati North America for pledged lead support of the project.
