Dike Blair

Dike Blair (b. 1952, New Castle, PA) develops his iconic paintings of everyday life by working directly from his own photographs. The bright flash that radiates from cocktail glasses, door handles, or ashtrays lends a unique brand of photorealism to Blair’s work as well as an eeriness to these typically mundane objects. Both banality and wonder coexist throughout Blair’s paintings and sculptures, providing a documentary yet engaging account of American life.

Blair lives and works in New York City. Solo exhibitions of his work have been presented at Karma, New York (2020); Various Small Fires, Seoul (2020); The Modern Institute, Glasgow (2019); Secession, Vienna (2016), among others. Blair’s drawings are featured in Between the Lines: An RxART Coloring Book by Contemporary Artists – Volume 8Click here to download and color his spread.
