Nicolas Party (b. 1980, Lausanne, Switzerland) works across a wide range of different media. In 2021 his RxART Project was installed at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. He created a wondrous mural that was fabricated as wall coverings for the 207-foot corridor leading to CHLA’s Operating Department, which receives nearly 16,500 patients each year. Party also created a limited-edition print exclusively for RxART on the occasion of the 2019 PARTY honoring the artist.

Primarily known for his color-saturated paintings and murals, he also makes painted sculptures, pastels, installations, prints, and drawings, and works as a curator. Party often paints portraits and still lifes of everyday objects, which he strips of all extraneous detail. The challenge is to capture the essence of these subjects in new and revelatory ways, and in so doing to heighten their physical and emotional resonance. Party is also interested in the power of paint to alter our perception of the built environment and, within a gallery context, how we experience art. To this end, he regularly paints murals, either as stand-alone works or as carefully orchestrated settings for his paintings.

Party completed a BA in Fine Art at the Lausanne School of Art before undertaking an MA at The Glasgow School of Art, graduating in 2009. Party’s recent exhibitions and major commissions include Montreal Museum of Fine Arts (2022); Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, Washington, DC (2021, 2017); Le Consortium, Dijon (2021); MASI Lugano (2021); The FLAG Art Foundation in New York (2019); Marble House, Newport, RI (2019); M WOODS, Beijing (2018); Magritte Museum, Brussels (2018); among many others. He lives and works in New York.
