Sofia Mitsola

Sofia Mitsola (b. 1992, Thessaloniki, Greece) is a London-based painter whose images of the female form are directly influenced by ancient Greek and Egyptian mythological sculptures. Her figures are often rendered in bright, flat layers of paint on large-scale canvases. Mitsola’s typically nude women make unflinching eye-contact — forcing viewers to engage with issues of gender, voyeurism, and power.

Recent solo exhibitions of Mitsola’s work have been shown at Pilar Corrias, Art Basel Hong Kong (2021); Pilar Corrias, London (2020); and Jerwood Space, London (2019), among others. Mitsola is featured in Between the Lines: An RxART Coloring Book by Contemporary Artists – Volume 8.
