Clare Rojas

Clare Rojas (b. 1976, Columbus, OH) creates folklore-inspired stories through painting, drawing, sculpture, and music. Many of her works highlight tensions between the sexes, humans and animals, and harmony and balance. She reduces her tales to their most essential parts — whether through visual abstraction on her canvases or auditory reduction in her songs. Rojas probes our impulses towards storytelling, using the most limited forms necessary to communicate a tale.

Recent solo exhibitions of Rojas’ work have been held at Jessica Silverman, San Francisco, CA (2021); SOCO Gallery, Charlotte, NC (2019); Anglim Gilbert Gallery, San Francisco, CA (2019); and Kavi Gupta, Chicago, IL (2018). Her work is in the permanent collections of the Berkeley Art Museum, CA; the Museum of Modern Art, New York, NY; and the San Jose Museum of Art, San Jose, CA, among others. She lives and works in San Francisco, CA. Rojas is featured in Between the Lines: An RxART Coloring Book by Contemporary Artists – Volume 8. Click here to download and color her spread.
