Jaye Rhee

Jaye Rhee (b. 1973, South Korea) is a New York-based video and performance artist fascinated by artificiality, particularly in regard to desire. She explained that “by focusing on the tension between ‘real’ desire and ‘fake’ objects of desire, as embodied by images — in the broadest sense of the word — my work presents ‘real fakes’ and ‘imageless images.” Her work has ranged from large-scale installations to photographs.

Rhee’s work has been shown at recent solo exhibitions at Texas State University Galleries, San Marcos, TX (2016); The Picker Art Gallery at Colgate University, Hamilton, NY (2015); CAAA, Guimaraes, Portugal (2014); and Doosan Gallery, Seoul, Korea (2013), among others. She received her BFA and MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Rhee is featured in Between the Lines: An RxART Coloring Book. Click here to download and color her drawing spread.
