Rachel Jones

Rachel Jones (b.1991, London, UK) is a painter whose abstraction is informed by her exhaustive research into how Black figures have been depicted and reproduced since the eighteenth century. Jones explains that, rather than including actual human forms, she focuses on “using motifs and color as a way to communicate ideas about the interiority of black bodies and their lived experience.”

Recent solo exhibitions of Jones’ work have been held at 12.26, Dallas, TX (2020); The Chinati Foundation, Marfa, TX (2019); Jupiter Woods, London, UK (2018); and Residence Gallery, London, UK (2017). Jones completed her MA at the Royal Academy Schools, London in 2019 and lives and works in London. Jones’ work is featured in Between the Lines: An RxART Coloring Book by Contemporary Artists – Volume 8. Click here to download and color her spread.
