Hana Yilma Godine

Hana Yilma Godine (b. 1993, Arssi Negele, Ethiopia) is an Ethiopian painter based in Addis Ababa. Godine graduated with an MFA from Boston University in 2020 and her work is influenced by her experiences studying in Addis Ababa, Europe, and the United States. Her elongated, somewhat abstracted figures are directly influenced by the biblical art of North Africa as well as the work of modernist painters. She further conflates time by painting directly onto aged textiles and yellowing newspaper.

Godine’s first solo U.S. solo exhibition was held at Fridman Gallery, New York in 2020 and her first international exhibition premiered at the National Museum of Ethiopia in April, 2021. Her work is featured in Between the Lines: An RxART Coloring Book by Contemporary Artists – Volume 8
