Leigh Ruple

Leigh Ruple (b. 1984, Painseville, OH) creates cinematic paintings that document the oft-unglamorized aspects of urban life in New York City. Despite being inspired by American Precisionism, the modernist movement which romanticized industrial progress, Ruple focuses her vibrant, flat compositions on organic forms such as sidewalk weeds and solitary figures.

Recent solo exhibitions of Ruple’s work have been held at Page, New York (2020); Colossal Youth Exhibitions, Brooklyn, NY (2019); Morgan Lehman Gallery, NY (2018); and St. Charles Projects, Baltimore, MD (2017), among others. She lives and works in New York City. Ruple is featured in Between the Lines: An RxART Coloring Book by Contemporary Artists – Volume 8. Click here to download and color her spread.
