Lesley Vance

Lesley Vance (b. 1977, Milwaukee, WI) is a Los Angeles-based artist who creates abstract paintings that combine gestural brushwork with geometric forms. She utilizes light and shadow to give her abstractions a mysterious cut-out effect. Vance works in a wet-on-wet technique with a palette knife in order to create and erase marks, always staying true to the original materiality of the paint itself.

Recent solo exhibitions of Vance’s work have been held at Xavier Hufkens, Brussels, Belgium (2021); David Kordansky Gallery, Los Angeles, CA (2020); Bortolami, New York (2019); and Herald St, London (2018), among others. Her work is in the permanent collections of the Dallas Museum of Art, TX; San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, CA; Whitney Museum of American Art, NY; and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, CA. Vance lives and works in Los Angeles, CA. Vance created RxART’s Limited Edition Print for the 2018 PARTY and is featured in Between the Lines: An RxART Coloring Book by Contemporary Artists – Volume 8.  Click here to download and color her drawing spread.
